You might not think that paying just a few percent in fees or a small monthly fee might sound like much, but it could end up costing you tens of thousands of dollars over time.

Let me give you an example.

Over the 30 years to December 2023, the annual return from Australian shares was 9.2%. Had you invested $100,000 at the start of that period and paid a fee of 1.5% to achieve that return, you’d have $1,000,035 at the end of it. If you paid just 0.5% you’d have $1,347,161.

A whopping $347,126 difference.

That’s why understand the fees you’re paying for different types of investments (eg Managed vs ETF) and between what you're charged on different investing platforms matters.
